About Lisa

Lisa (Shilepsky) Van Raalte is the creative force behind lisavanraalteart. She paints and creates contemporary artwork, with a focus on abstract art. She was born in Madison Wisconsin and spent most of her childhood in the small college town of Aurora, New York, where her parents were professors of Mathematics.

Lisa received a Bachelors of Arts from Mount Holyoke College in Politics and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University. She previously served as the Assistant Ninth Circuit Coordinator for the Division of Guardian ad Litem for The Governor's Office of South Carolina, managing volunteers who represented abused and neglected children.

While at Mount Holyoke, Lisa studied sculpture with master sculptor Leonard DeLonga, and Art History. She has since furthered her education in art by studying with fine artists and has taken courses in drawing, portraiture, painting, and mixed media. She recently studied with abstract expressionist Professor Michael Phillips at the College of Charleston.

Color and self expression are central to her work. She is most inspired by Fauvism, Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism. She considers herself a work in progress and plans to never stop learning.

Lisa minored in French and is an active member of Alliance Française de Charleston. She was a collegiate varsity volleyball player.

Lisa lives and paints in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. When not painting, she is often at the beach with her husband and daughter, who are avid surfers. She may be reached at lisavanraalteart@gmail.com or (843) 478-9099.
